eGovernment Terms & Conditions

The following Terms and Conditions govern your use of eGovernment services offered by H.M. Government of Gibraltar. By registering for eGovernment services you agree to these Terms & Conditions.

1. www.egov.gi (hereinafter "site") is the official website for H. M. Government of Gibraltar’s online services. In using this site you are deemed to have read and agreed to the following terms and conditions.

2. H. M. Government of Gibraltar reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions should any circumstances occur that require such action, without prior notice to persons who use it.

3. H. M. Government of Gibraltar is not responsible for the consequences arising from the reuse of data and information published on its site.

4. The eGovernment service cannot be claimed as a right. H. M. Government of Gibraltar will take the necessary measures to ensure the proper functioning of the site; however, interruptions in service or webpage inaccessibility could occur, for an indefinite period of time, for various reasons.

5. To make use of eGovernment services users will be provided with the following ‘secret codes’:

Transport PIN

6. The PIN will be requested for user authentication.

7. The Transport PIN is a ‘one-off’ code used to create a private 6-digit Signer PIN. The Signer PIN will be requested whenever a digital signature is required.

8. In the event that your card becomes locked you may use the PUK to unlock it.

9. Users will be able to change their PIN and Signer PIN if they so wish. The user is free to choose a PIN and Signer PIN of his/her own. As a precaution PINs that are generic in nature, guessable or inferable personal data such as name, address, telephone member, driving license, date of birth etc. is best avoided. Similarly it is a good practice to commit these codes to memory rather than writing it down somewhere.

10. There is no way to retrieve the PIN, PUK, Transport PIN or Signer PIN from the system. Therefore, in the event that you forget these codes you will have to re-apply for a new ID Card.

11. The user has an obligation to maintain secrecy in regard to his/her PIN, PUK, Transport PIN and Signer PIN. The user should not divulge this information to any other person. Any loss sustained by the user due to non-compliance of this condition will be at his/her own risk and responsibility; H. M. Government of Gibraltar will not be liable for the same in any manner.

12. H. M. Government of Gibraltar will make reasonable use of available technology to ensure security and to prevent unauthorised access to any of its services.

13. The site uses two-way communication secured with 256-bit TLS encryption technology, which protects the confidentiality of the data during transmission.

14. You may access the site from anywhere anytime. However, as a matter of precaution, it is recommended that users avoid using public WiFi hotspots or devices with public access.

15. It is not safe to leave the computer (or other device) unattended during a valid session.

16. Disputes between the user and H. M. Government of Gibraltar are governed by the laws prevailing in Gibraltar and subject to the jurisdiction of its courts.

17. H. M. Government of Gibraltar presupposes that login using a valid certificate and PIN is a valid session initiated by none other than the user.

18. H. M. Government of Gibraltar presupposes that signing using a valid certificate and Signer PIN is a valid transaction initiated by none other than the user.

19. Transactions executed through a valid session will be construed by H. M. Government of Gibraltar to have emanated from the registered user and will be binding on him/her.

20. The user will not attempt or permit others to access the site through any unlawful means.
